Why write about it when we can show you what we mean? Ok, so there's a ton of fun to be had with end-of-year lists, not the least of which is trolling for gold you may have missed in the blur of the year-gone-by. There's no end to the indulgence, really. I'm told Midnight Poutine will be hosting a whole bunch of Top 5's shortly, and you're encouraged to check those out if you just can't get enough of lists and spotting textual trends and all that stuff.
Over here we figured, why not play the shit? Actually, we'll be doing both, with a mammoth three-part podcast/review affair. Over the next week or two I'll be posting mini-reviews of my own personal top twenty major releases of the year at The mass is secretly obsessed with nipple dream. Part 1 and 3 of the end-of-year podcast will be giving you a sampling of the best tracks from those albums. While I'll be counting down at The mass... in terms of textual reviews, the podcasts will be organized more thematically, with an ear to flow and theme. The tracks have been chosen for their representativeness of the albums from which they respectively spring, as well as their general kick-ass-ness. There are some obvious (and necessary) choices, and some darker horses in the mix.
And speaking of, Part 2 will be an attempt to showcase some of the best local/Canadian darkhorse talent that emerged this year as either debuts or discoveries. We'll be posting various reviews and content surrounding all that stuff right here. By the time we're done you should have a pretty good idea of what to go out and get yourself and/or your loved ones for Christmas. Assuming, that is, that we can save Christmas.
